Although I have little personal experience with using the comic as a technical communication tool per se, I can reference graphic novels (one of my all time favourite forms of creative literature) as being a highly effective literacy tool. I currently am reading two that correlate instructions with images, one being dealing with a parent who has terminal cancer and the other being on the history of the atom bomb.  I think that good technical writing should encompass a mixture of different media in order to get the message across to all types of learners—-visual, audio, reading, tactile, etc. What specifically are you citing as comics in technical communication?
