November 15 Program - Writing for Translation

Writing for Translation

In our multicultural and officially bilingual country, the content we write may often require translation to other languages. Come and learn about some of the factors to consider when creating content with possible future translation in mind, including:

  • the difference between exact and correct translation
  • source-language factors that complicate or simplify translation
  • factors to consider when writing content aimed at other cultures
  • technical considerations, such as source-language content format and software used by translators
  • how to work in partnership with translators to make sure that all audiences are equally served

About the Speaker
Anthony Michael of Le Mot Juste Translations has a Bachelor’s degree in French and Linguistics and a Master’s in Translation. Between working with Canadian clothing and music retailers and eight years with the federal government, he has been translating between French and English, and occasionally from Spanish to English, for eleven years. Anthony now freelances and also teaches English and French.
